Gasten is the leader of the Soothing Symphonium, a traveling band of entertainers--musicians, jugglers, knife throwers, and other brilliant and untrustworthy people. 

Gasten came across the abandoned infant Aster Fortuna and took him on as his adopted son and protégé. Gasten is sneaky, greedy, gluttonous, and untrustworthy, and doesn't even have a heart of gold. He does have a soft spot for his son, and he's willing to help people if he thinks it might pay off for him eventually.
